Since you have the double tapered leg, you could cut it in the straight section and reattach with a sleeve inside. I'd try doing it at the top end to be hidden by the table top. A machine shop could do this. It's easier and neater to find a shorter length.

edit: google search sez it may be a Detmar product, but only in 26" ???
