BTW, there is a definite slope (maybe 12 inches) of the awning to the rear of the RV. It thought it may be engineered that way to have any rain be drained away from the door. Is this true or is something not correct with my awning.

That side to side angle is adjustable and yes that is the intent: to allow water to drain off in the rain.
