There have been a few discussions about this. There are a couple of things that may keep the fireplace from working constantly.
1. The fireplace shares a circuit with the electric water heater. There is an automatic switch that gives the water heater priority, so if the water is heating, the fireplace won't work.
2. The thermostat for the fireplace is located in the back of the unit, in the same cabinet as the furnace. If you are running the furnace, that cabinet gets pretty warm, and will trip the thermostat on the fireplace, shutting it down.
So, if you would like to run the fireplace for a while, switch the water heater over to gas, and turn the furnace off.
Hope this helps.
