6 volt vs 12 volt ?

I have a question about this thread. What is this thread about? We have a 2017 Thor Chateau 29g which we bought new. There are two batteries under the steps. They are working fine.
But: need I check to see if they are 6 volt or 12 volt? If they are 12 volt should I replace them with 6 volt? If so, should I get the best 6 volt available?
Sorry about the noob type post, but I just don't understand the issue.
