We have occasionally used a dinette as a secondary bed for children and for guests for many years without any issues.

The dinettes have always been 38 to 39 inches wide and made into a comfortable single bed. Two adults won't ever be comfortable on a dinette so making them wider is a waste of aisle width in my opinion. On our latest 3-week-long trip I brought along a 2-inch-thick memory foam topper that we placed over cushions once bed was made up (I'm convinced cushions have to be set a certain way to work best). I didn't sleep there but was told it was very comfortable. I think it was better than the Jack-Knife couch (also had a foam topper) which wasn't as smooth on top.
