That's SOP for those LED strips. Several people here have replaced theirs; it's just a matter or sliding the old strip out of the groove and sliding the new strip in and then connecting the wiring.

The reason given for these things burning out is overheating. This can be caused by having them on while the awning is rolled up - you'll never notice it if someone accidentally flips the switch.

The best thing to do is get a strip backed with adhesive and run it under and parallel to the awning. That way you can use it with the awning rolled up and never have to worry about them being on accidentally and cooking themselves.
