Fresh air intake ducts behind grill

Hello everyone, I have a question about the two black air intake ducts that are mounted on the front end of the Vegas behind the grill. It looks like they deliver air to the foot area on the passenger side. There isn't a flap to close the vent off. If all it does is direct outside air into the coach what is the value in to leaving it wide opened like it is. Looks like it would make the A/C or heater work harder while in motion. Tell me what you think or know please!
