Gas Shock bracket and basement door
Is your gas shock bracket pulling out of the basement door? The factory mount is less that desirable --- so here was my fix.
I got some 2" metal stock from home depot -- 1/8" thick. I cut 2 pieces 6" long (one for each side) and put that over the existing area where the gas shock bracket is mounted. Once I had that mounted I put the gas shock bracket back to as close to the original position as i could and mounted the bracket to the metal. I used 1" long -- 1/4" self taping screws. It worked very well. (The key is to make sure you are screwing into the support pieces in the door).
The shocks now push the basement door higher than it went originally.
Just wanted to pass this along.
