Added some rubber 15" straps to my awning last year before my AK trip they have worked well for the last 17.5k miles and 7 or so months of actual use since I've owned the rig. Drilled a small hole in each of the vertical awning mounts for the bottom end of the strap. I'm sure they wouldn't work in high winds but they have worked for me so far and there were some gusty days.
