You are correct when you stated that the condition is caused by temperature. This condition can can be corrected by removing the rubber strip and pulling it to stretch it. This will put more tension on it and keep it in the tracks. No need to put messy glue or tape to hold it in. When you do your periodic walk around , you may need to pull it out and stretch it again. Not a cure all but an easy fix.
