Thanks, I do know that I can just replace the gear mechanism but the fan and cover are very poor quality and I will feel better just replacing it. I think the reason the gears got stripped is from trying to get it closed tight enough to seal and not rattle. The weather strip is garbage. I had to remove the rear fan to install a second A/C so I know what I am getting into with removal of the caulk. It was a pain, but really only took me about an hour. So to me well worth the hassle.
