Try to disconnect the power system, then tie it up till you get somewhere you can work on it.
I replaced the motor on mine (KwiKee single step). If you can finagle the pin from the step connection, the steps are usually easy to move in and out, unless like SoldierGirl, they have been bent.
Go to lci1.com and look for the service, operation, troubleshooting info if yours is a Kwikee or LCI/Lippert manufacturer.
