I agree. You can’t legally / easily get a firearm into Canada.

But stateside... A non licensee can ship a firearm to himself, “in care of” whoever he’s visiting, for any legal purpose. Basically, if you’re going to hunt in Alaska, or you’re using your pistol for self defense, you can legally ship your firearm to yourself. The folks in Alaska can’t open the package. You are the only one that can open it when you get there. You can ship it home, to yourself, when you return.

A non licensee can ship a long gun via USPS.
A non licensee must use FedEx next day for a handgun.

You can also check long and hand guns when you fly.

And - it must be legal for said person to possess the firearm in both states.

I’m an FFL as well as a firearm instructor.
