On my old fiver I had the same problem. I had a long pull rod for the manual awning that was just right for reaching those little tabs. I kept that rod, and I now use it to pull stuff from the deep recesses of the storage bays. Of course, if you have an electric awning, you probably don't have a rod, but could probably get one at CW.
