Wow! That pretty much looks like a hodge-podge from the factory. Do you stiil have a tailpiece from your sink?
My experience here in Florida (the land of retirees) is that you will find an older, wiser, experienced guy at Lowes or Home Depot that can point you in the right direction. They actually have "universal" drain kits that may be the easiest route to go:
