I found, least in my experience, that if you jump the terminals to open the solenoid valve for too long, it will burn out the solenoid. It is meant to be open for no longer than 7 seconds. Short bursts seem to be ok, but leaving open for minutes at a time seems to be detrimental. Its an easy replacement. I found one on Amazon. The hardest part was pulling the fridge out to get to the back. And that really wasn't that hard, taking 10 minutes or so on our rig.
