There is no need to change the entire housing.
Led bulbs are available which go right into the standard bulb socket.

There's a side by side brightness picture and lux meter comparisons in my signature thread.
I chose to not change my brake lights to LED because I don't need, want or agree with, the rude and stupidly bright LED tail/brake lights. I saw no value in led brake/tail lights/turn signals.
But
my back up lights are like the sun itself....
And
If better becomes available(which in lighting it always does) I just have to switch bulbs and not housings.

I didn't mess with the gasket and I have no leaks, but before I'd jack around with the gasket if mine were bad, I'd put a seal of hot glue around it all and call it a day.

But
If you use one side sticky instead of two side sticky tape, the lenses come off without any problem.
If you put the sticky side on the lens there's no alignment problems.
Just put the lens onto the rv and trim off excess tape.
Do it the other way and it's a potential mess.
