Stay at the Mt. Rushmore KOA its a really great park and just down the road from the faces. (Do click on the link as they have a cool drone shot of the campground as the background.) Yeah the sites are a little close together but you're not there to stay at the campground anyway (they have a bus that will take you to Mt. Rushmore if you don't have a vehicle with you).

The Black Hills and South Dakota was our very first "long distance" camping trip with our first trailer.
On your way to Mt Rushmore you have to stop at a few places: - Blue Earth, MN to see the Jolly Green Giant
- Mitchell, SD to see the Corn Palace (or not, its kind of corny)
- The Badlands
- Wall Drug--just to see it
- Pigtail Bridges
- Keystone, SD
- Custer State Park
- Crazy Horse
- Deadwood
- Then keep going West for Devil's Tower
- Of course if you really go West you get to Yellowstone

Thanks, Jamie! I am also going to make note of your suggested list.
