Use the pink stuff! The water in the lines goes down the drain when you blow out the lines and then sits in the P trap. Replacing a cracked P trap is not expensive or difficult. But I learned the hard way to use the pink stuff.
To cover or not is a personal preference. We cover with an ADCO cover that came with the rig and have had no problems. Mold doesn't stand much of a chance in our climate. Way too cold.
Our rig is small - just 24 feet. I use a step ladder on each side and pull it up at the back and then forward using broom handles to get it over things. Never get on the roof. Takes a bit of time. But not difficult.
I do use padding in corners and sharp edges. I do tighten it down. And then leave it alone until spring. Never had a problem with rubbing or water getting in. (But most of our water from the time I put it up until taking it down comes as snow.)
