Those that get much more AHs when switching to 6 volt batteries do so because they get much larger (physically) batteries.

That is true, but unless your are using AGM batteries which are in AH and not standard lead acid batteries which are in CCA. I was comparing standard lead acid to lead acid. The size is not much different. A slight height difference with standard lead acid batteries.
