Awning Replacement

My awning is starting to get pin holes in it close to the coach. I guess that part is always exposed to the elements.

Anyhow, I want to replace, rather than repair (e.g. tape).

a) Have you personally tackled this before?
b) What type of 'fabric' did you choose and why?
c) Were you successful and, if so, what did it take to reach the end goal?
d) Is there anything else to share regarding this task (did I miss something)?

Thanks for your help.
