In another thread someone asked about adding these and someone else supplied a link. That got me thinking: If I add some to our unit in the slide we can run without the genny running (since our son usually asks for it to be on to charge his devices while we're travelling).
Here we go:
I picked up 3 of these guys:
XYZ Boat Supplies Dual USB Charger
They aren't very deep and come with the hardware to hook them up (two screws and the compression wiring thingys (technical term) to go onto the tabs).
When I removed the light over the couch, however...
I discovered that it isn't deep enough there to install the USB charger with its associated tabs. So I soldered the wires directly to the tabs (saving me about 3/4").
Next up was to drill the holes and pull the wires through...well! LOL Turns out there is a rib in there about 1/2 between the light and either outlet. That was a bear to get the wire around. Had to use my
inspection camera to find the other hole and tape the wire to it as I pulled it out.
Now I have the holes drilled and the wires pulled through, the next issue is the fascia there is really thin; I needed something to screw into (both the outlets and the light have 3/4" MDF behind them for the screws to bite into).
I stopped by my local home improvement store and picked up some 3/4" square dowel rod and chopped it up into little ~3/4" lengths.
Put a little glue on them and slide them into place on either side of the hole.
This is where the project sits now...waiting for the glue to dry.
