brake controller

I just bought a aluminum car hauler with electric brakes and debated the same questions. I purchased a proportional unit from Amazon.
Tekonsha 90250 Prodigy RF Electronic Brake Control

I chose this unit because it mounts the controller on the trailer and pairs via bluetooth to the hand held remote that senses your vehicle brakes to activate the trailer brakes. I plan to pull the trailer with multiple vehicles and will now only need to plug the remote into a cigarette outlet for it to work and won't have to tear into the vehicle wiring to add anything. A bit more expensive, absolutely but far less aggravation in my eyes now and in the future.
