Perhaps what I dispose of from my tanks is different from what the reviewer posted? They may need a diet change if they're locking up a cutting blade. [emoji16]

I don't think the issue or resistance is caused by the cutting blades rather the Impeller. The screwdriver effectively forces the impeller free assuming it was binding or stuck.
I think a good rinse out in the end should avoid. I plan to rinse good and spray a lubricant inside on the impeller. I use a spray silicone on my Yamaha boat plugs and this would be similar. But I will also turn with a screwdriver just to be sure if it has been sitting for a month or two.
