You are correct...... the Winegard data plan is ridiculous. There were some great deals until early this year when AT&T ended the unlimited RV plan for $360/year.
If you do some searching on the Forum, you will find that Cricket has a pretty reasonable plan that works with the Winegard ConnecT 2. Here is the start of a thread about Cricket and you can get 20GB for $35/month.

I have the AT&T unlimited plan that will end on December 31. I have only used about 160GB and that was with streaming YouTubeTV, Prime, etc. quote a bit on the road when the camp WiFi was not good enough.
The Winegard unit does not cost extra to use it as a wireless router.... like your home wireless router. However, it does has the cellular data feature, which is like adding a data plan to hotspot device, a tablet, etc. to give you Internet when WiFi is not available.
I have cameras and temperature sensors in my coach so we can keep an eye on it and our dog when we are out so I want access to the Net as often as possible so I will likely switch to Cricket net year.
