On that type of latch if the handle lifts but doesn't open, there is MAYBE a slot under the handle where you stick a thing screwdriver and give it a turn against a little lever inside.
Take a look under a working latch and you should see the little lever the handle pushes on.
And as mentioned above, pushing on the door to relieve pressure while turning the key a few quick snaps will allow the keeper to fall away if it's a loose keeper hindering you.
