Front Cap Leak

Good evening,
I believe that I have found the source of a leak on my front cap of my 2017 E-450 Chateau.

When raining, water runs down the front of the cap and then enters thru the molding strip on the cap that is just above the windshield and gets wicked up by the boards on the inside.

I would normally just seal with some silicone but I have seen a few posts that state not to use it.

I do not know why that is the case so I am looking for suggestions for a clear sealer to use.

Thank you.
