Will be interesting to find out if it was a gear failure and if the gears are plastic.
Ford Super Duty mirrors use plastic gears and they fail on occasion.
Don't know if they are still available but there was an individual on the FTE forum that was making replacement gears out of brass. IIRC he was charging around $65
If that was your failure it might be worthwhile to see if an upgraded gear could be made at a cost that makes replacing the gearbox more expensive.
