I spoke with CW today. I was told that the antenna can "see through" glass and fiberglass, but not metal. With the Axis, they put it in the dash board. The large window and fiberglass body don't hinder it enough to warrant it being placed on the roof.
I have not noticed a problem yet, however we haven't used it much either.
