In my Class A - nothing to use as a ground plane... You might have something usable in your rig...
There are antennas designed for no ground plane - they use the antenna wire (fixed length) to serve the purpose.
I'd expect issues if an antenna expecting a ground plane doesn't have one.
I'm looking to mount my 'no ground plane' antenna outside... Still figuring how I'm going to get the wire where I need it to be without being visible
- guessing that is why you are considering the compartment...
