Sirius(my employer) only recently added a geostationary satellite. There is also a set of three low-earth-orbit satellites providing signal (at any given time two of which are "visible" over the US).

Thus even if the antenna is on the dash in an Axis/Vegas and the driver is driving due north satellites will still be visible.

Also note that the other structure besides the front cap is just standard aluminum framed fiberglass/wood which would allow signal through as well.

XM has always used geostationary satellites and it wasn't until after the merger did Sirius launch one as well.
