I think he is just giving advise for those that may not be as inclined to know your equipment before hitting the roads. i.e. It is nice to know how many actual hours you can run your normal stuff before draining down to 50%; so you plan according when on the road or camping. It is less stress if you find something in your driveway than the hard way on that vacation trip.
