There is a very good reason NOT to use a brass plug - galvanic corrosion. Aluminum is highly reactive metal especially in the presence of warm mineralized water. Adding any copper item in contact with aluminum will cause corrosion, so it best to stick with plastic unless you want to replace the aluminum tank in a couple years.

For the chemist around copper has an electric potential of +0.34 volts and aluminum of -1.67 volts. A nice way to make a 2 volt wet cell.
