Oil filter installation generally

Aside from the specifics of the oil change on your specific rig, it's been my practice, for any oil filter replacement:

1. Fill the new filter with oil, so that when the engine is first started it immediately has a supply of lubricating oil. You'll note that the oil pressure is zilch in the first starting moment.

2. Apply a smear of oil on the rubber gasket on the filter...it goes on and comes off easier, seals better.

3. Don't overtighten the filter. Many manuals call for hand tightening.

4. If the filter does get overtightened and presents a removal problem, I have found the rubber strap wrenches (often also used for plumbing applications) work better than steel band style filter wrenches.
