Tail Pipe repair

55000 miles Chevy 3500 Express platform.

The tail pipe weld broke at the muffler exhaust pipe allowing the tail pipe to drag. Sounded like raking a coin down the furnace grill.

Poor design, as there is only one hanger, close to the weld, and the tail pipe cantilevers out the curb side stressing the weld. Bounces over time caused the weld to fail (and in my case in the real boonies)!

The solution is to double clamp the lap joint at the exhaust-tail pipe coupling, double up the existing hanger (the rubber insulator was compromised) and ADD a second hanger near the tail pipe exit on the curb side. A muffler shop can do this or you can do this yourself for about $30 if you are handy.

Even if you tail pipe weld hasn't broken (yet) the outside hanger may prevent it dong so.
