Leaning towards the latter, as the engine only has 33k on it. I do find it odd that that this happened so soon. He suspects that the engine has possibly been over ran. Either that, or it's just a fluke.

In an earlier post you say the engine has 53K on it and here you say 33K. Which is it?
Repairing the engine comes with what type and length warranty? The Ford replacement engine comes with what length warranty? Is the Ford replacement the complete engine or only a short block? If short block, would any transferrable parts require work as well such as valve grinding, head shaving, etc...?
Did the previous owner provide the service records for the motorhome? Chances are the culprit may have been one oil change just before sale.
