chances are:
A) you have an AGS(auto generator starter) and it is set to either TEMP or VOLTAGE and trying to crank the generator to run the a/c unit, or charge the batteries
B) you have the dreaded 'ghost' generator starting due to moisture buildup in the starter switch(the one ON the generator itself), or on the generator's starter solenoid.
if you can start the generator manually, both from the inside Switch, and the switch on the Generator, I would suspect the generator itself is operating normally. the AGS could then be the culprit. Turn it to OFF(NOT ENABLED), or go into the setting for TEMP and/or VOLTAGE and make sure they are not in play.
