We went mostly to different places than we had been before so my "costs are up" didn't do an evaluation of previous rates. If doing online reservations their site might not figure in discounts such as good sam, military, etc. so calling may be necessary. I'll stick with my comment to travel during the week it that will fit your schedule. Weekends most places will be higher occupancy by locals as long as the weather holds.
