There is a connector that handles wiring to the local and remote starter switches that has been known to have intermittent connection issues. Maybe find and check all those connections in that connector.

Agree with this... If the solenoid engagement is microprocessor controlled - possibly a short on that controller board? Maybe a current sensing issue causing whatever controls the solenoid to disengage?
