Close the valve incrementally/slowly/partially until the hose will no longer jump out of the tank filler.
Much longer time to fill.
Check tires or wash windshield while tank fills.

Edit:
A later thought:
Buy a spare tank cap.
Drill it out to fit the clear hose.
Insert clear hose.
Zip tie wrapped around the clear hose on the tank side of the ccap to Keep the hose in place. Now you can screw on modified cap/filler and the overflow will spit about 10ft of water once the tank is full.

Or
New cap.
Male hose fitting adapted to it.
No fill device except the cap.
(Cw might sell these. I'm kinda memberberrying)
