Must second the comment on Cherry Hill Park. You can pick up a bus at the park entrance, it takes you to the train station right into DC. Although I had been there several times, Mrs S hadn't. We did the 2 day Gray line tour, then rode the train back on our own for the third day. By Sunday, we were comfortable enough to drive in and see a few things we had missed, including the Washington National Cathredal. Missed by most tourists, it is stunning!
