I'd wrap the threads.
But I bet the problem lies in that the original valve stem isn't meeting the o ring in the extender.
The extender should bottom-out on the lip of the valve stem.
I have some long thread valve stems and some short threaded valve stems.
I don't know why long threaded ones exist but the cap bottoms on the nicely. My short threaded ones the stainless cap kinda floats. I'll try to get pictures.
I counted up tires a while back. Things that need air including bicycles and furniture dollies...76...probably more since my last count.
