Hello and welcome. You said the water will heat off the gas option but not the electric option. How long did you give it? The gas heats quickly (think 15 min), electric heats slowly (think more than an hour). If still not working, it could be a bad anode. If no heat off either then you are probably on bypass and can burn anode out if no water in the tank.
