Its not just Thor that does it and I don't know the reason (the common answer has been: "more water to flush out the black tank").
Neither our prior campers were plumbed like that (two travel trailers and a 5th wheel).

The waste tank sensors are notorious for being inaccurate for just about every camper. There are many solutions to them (Horst Miracle Probes, or roll your own sensors--still working on that one; a couple of examples).
