Here is a photo of a section of the outside wall that was removed with a hole saw when I installed the dryer vent. As you can see it is just a little over an inch thick and has a sheet of metal on the inside layer under the interior wallboard and a sheet of luan on the outside

Very cool to see this. I thought perhaps they used wood.

Knowing this, I can see that using small screws that went into the aluminum metal would probably do the trick.
