hi

my experience has been to push the air bags lever to 'auto' for a lit bit to allow some air into the bags before pushing the retracting the levelers. you can also use the 'manual' button and then use the 'retract all' button and it will only go down for as long as you hold the button, which gives you a little greater control over the 'bouncing' issues...

most times that I've had any wheels off the ground, I've also heard the 'popping' sound - though I attributed that to the axle 'resetting' itself, but the air bag scenerio sounds like a better reason.
