shower curtain rod modifications

I have not found a thread for this topic. Has anyone tried installing a shower curtain rod extender or some manner of mod to make the shower a tad bigger? We are going to replace the flimsy original curtain with a heavier one to make it less clingy but in a perfect world would like to extend it out, even an inch or two would make a difference. Looking at the replacement curtain rods that extend it does not look like there is enough room in the Axis 24.1 to mount them Any ideas?
