As shipped from the factory Axis/Vegas units need the generator to be on while driving down the road (the installed TVs are 120VAC and there is no inverter in the unit).

You can always add an inverter if you don't like to run the generator--it really hasn't been an issue for us. We quite frequently go down the road with the genny running.
