Mud flap

For those of you with one, what are your experiences and feelings with the side to side mud flap all the way across at the rear? Mine rides about 3" from the road and creates terrific air movement which will put small gravel into the kayaks on top of the toad. I once straddled a squirrel and watched it launched out the back end at a 45* angle to a height of about 5-6'.
This is very hard on the toad, even with a Protect-A-Tow. I am considering removing the flap and having individual flaps installed behind each dual.
Anyone tried this? Results?

Steve
