I tried the 12V macerator pump years ago and found it to be more of a PITA than the 3" stinky slinky hoses. The macerator and 50 feet of hose have been since sitting in my crawl space. I then switched over to the Valterra Sewer Solution, which uses pressurized water (rather than a motor) to force solid waste through a 3/4" hose. The system also works to back flush the tank. When not emptying the black tank, the grey tank valve can be left open to continually drain it while hooked up to a campground sewer. I've got to tell you - after 8 years of using it, it does a very job. I still carry a 3" hose for when I have to use the dump station at a state park that doesn't have sewers, but that doesn't happen too often with me. Here is a link to a Youtube video on the Sewer Solution:
My new Hurricane has 2 sets of black and grey tanks, and I did not want to go back and have to buy a lot more 3" hoses, sewer line supports, and a wye adapter. So, I bought a second Sewer Solution and bought some PVC pipe, valves, and adapters and devised my own setup. I've used the system twice now, and it works exactly as intended. The whole system takes up much less space than 2 sets of 3" hose and accessories. I realize that some may think that it's overkill, but what what's the fun of having a motorhome if you're not constantly doing mods on it? Here's a picture of my new sewer setup (I did put 25' hoses on each system, and you don't need sewer supports like you do with 3" hoses).
